Idaho Falls is the largest city in eastern Idaho, which got its start as the site of Taylor’s Crossing, which provided passage of the Snake River on the Montana Trail. The area was sparsely populated as a camp town and later by settlers in the late 19th century, by which time railroad passage through the area had been constructed. The area saw significant economic growth following the 1969 construction of the Great Feeder irrigation canal, which brought water from the Snake River to nearby desert lands, which are now among the most fertile farms in the United States.

Today, Idaho Falls is a regional hub for healthcare, travel, and business in eastern Idaho. It has been recognized as one of the best places to live and raise kids, and its economy remains strong thanks to the presence of the Idaho National Laboratory and outdoor activities that frequently attract tourists.
